We recognize that the health and wellbeing of wildlife is contingent on the health of the ecosystems of which they are a part. Ecotourism, predation, and disease transmission are just some of the pressing issues affecting wildlife and their neighbouring human communities. Living on the borders of national parks and wildlife habitats, developing communities are impacted by their proximity to wildlife in both positive and negative ways. A large part of VWB/VSF’s wildlife program is focused on helping these communities balance the risks and benefits associated with human-wildlife-domestic animal relationships. We are also working with agencies in developing countries to establish infectious disease surveillance systems and deliver training in wildlife management and immobilization skills. |
